Epilepsy
Insurance Services
In
partnership with Epilepsy Action (formally British Epilepsy
Association), we have designed a range of bespoke Insurance
products to meet the specific Insurance needs for people
with Epilepsy.
To
date the range of policies designed are as follows with
further new products being developed:
For
every policy sold a donation is given to the Association
for research and development.

PERSONAL
ACCIDENT INSURANCE
The
unique cover provided by this policy not only includes
the day-to-day accidents but also those caused by or
causing seizures.
As
a member of Epilepsy Action, you are automatically provided
with a benefit of £1,000 of cover. This can be
increased (see HOW TO INCREASE MY COVER)
up to £50,000. The extent of cover provided is
detailed as follows:
SCOPE
OF COVER

The
limit can be increased up to a maximum of £21,000.
The cost of this is £1.00 (including Insurance
Premium Tax) per £500 unit of cover. However this
does not apply to the following:
|
(i)
Persons under the age of 18 and in full time education
when the maximum amount payable under the Death
benefit shall not exceed £5,000.
(ii)
Persons over the age of 70 when the maximum benefit
payable under all sections shall not exceed £5,000.
|
POLICY
DEFINITIONS:
| 1.
|
Death
-
accidental bodily injury which within 24 months
of the accident results in the Insured Person's
death. |
| 2. |
Loss
of Limb - accidental bodily injury
which within 24 months of the accident results
in the loss of limb(s). This shall include loss
of use as well as dismemberment.
Loss of Eye - as
with limb, but shall include total and irrecoverable
loss of sight.
|
| 3. |
Permanent
Total Disablement - disablement caused
other than by loss of Limb or Eye, which has lasted
at least 12 months and (i) will prevent the Insured
Person from engaging their usual occupation or in
any other occupation for which he or she is fitted
by reason of education, training or experience for
the remainder of his or her life - applicable to
those in employment or (ii) will prevent the Insured
Person from working in any business or occupation
of any and every kind and which after a period of
52 weeks from the date of disability shows no sign
of ever improving - applicable to those not employed |
The
Accident Policy will cover a member against Death, Loss
of Eyes or Limbs or Permanent Total Disablement:
| 1.
|
as
a result of an accident. |
| 2. |
as
the direct result of the accident causing an epileptic
seizure.
|
| 3. |
bodily
injury caused by an accident occurring directly
as the result
of an epileptic seizure. |
(N.B. Bodily injury is defined as either accidental
death, loss of eyes or limbs or permanent total disablement.)
THE POLICY WILL NOT COVER
| 1.
|
Death,
Loss of eyes or limbs or Permanent Total Disablement
as the result of an epileptic seizure and not the
result of an accident. |
| 2. |
Suicide
or any attempt of self-injury.
|
| 3. |
Travel
in Light Aircraft, Test or Military Aircraft or
whilst serving as a crewmember in any Aircraft. |
| 4. |
Serving
in the armed forces of any nation. |
| 5. |
Pregnancy
or Childbirth. |
| 6. |
War
or undeclared war. |
EXCLUDED
ACTIVITIES
| 1.
|
Flying
other than as a passenger. |
| 2. |
Mountaineering,
rock and cliff climbing necessitating the use
of ropes or guides.
|
| 3. |
Motor-cycling
excluding pillion riding. |
| 4. |
Diving
in connection with the Insured Person's occupation. |
| 5. |
Parachuting
or hang gliding. |
| 6. |
Racing
on horseback or on wheels. |
HOW TO INCREASE
MY COVER
In
order to increase your sum insured, please forward your
cheque, for £1.00 per £500 additional sum
insured (up to a maximum of £40) to the
British

TRAVEL
INSURANCE
For
almost 30 years Tysers have worked in partnership with
Epilepsy Action and certain Insurers to create a bespoke Travel
Insurance policy that provides a wide range of benefits
at a competitive premium.
The
cover is simple to arrange and all that is required
is the completion of the Proposal form and Questionnaire.
Subject to the information provided being satisfactory,
a Certificate of Insurance is issued immediately. In
the vast majority of cases further medical documentation
is not required.
The
policy not only provides the cover usually associated
with travel insurance but also includes Medical Expenses
and Cancellation & Curtailment expenses incurred
as direct result of Epilepsy, cover that would ordinarily
be excluded under other travel policies as a pre-existing
condition.
Summary
of Cover
 |
Medical
& other Emergency Expenses - Sum Insured £5,000,000. |
This
Section shall reimburse the Insured Person in respect
of charges incurred for Medical, Surgical, Diagnostic
or remedial treatment as a result of illness or sustaining
bodily injury during the period of insurance.
Cover
under this section includes, where necessary, Emergency
Medical Assistance which provides the following:
 |
Guarantees
for payment of hospital or doctors' fees, where
appropriate |
 |
Multi-lingual
assistance |
 |
Repatriation
to the UK by Air Ambulance or Scheduled Air service
and necessary escort by medical attendant |
 |
Travel
arrangements for other members of the party or next
of kin |
 |
On
arrival in the UK an Ambulance Service to hospital
or home. |
This
section includes other Emergency Expenses the details
of which are as follows:

Reasonable
travel, accommodation and repatriation expenses
incurred in respect of the insured person by any
relative, friend, business associate or colleague
of the insured person who on medical advise is required
to travel, to remain with or escort the insured
person |
 |
In the event of Death, cover for funeral or transportation
expenses up to £4,000 |
 |
Repatriation
in the event of the sudden death, serious injury
or serious illness or an immediate relative, close
business colleague or fiancé(e) in the UK |
 |
Emergency
Dental treatment for the immediate relief of pain
to sound and natural teeth up to £1,000 |
 |
Emergency
optical treatment as a result of accidental bodily
injury or illness occurring during the cover trip |
 |
Hospital
Benefit of £20 per day for each 24 hour period. |
Cancellation & Curtailment -
Sum Insured £3,000
Cover
is provided to indemnify the Insured person in respect
of irrecoverable deposits, advance payments and other
charges paid or due to be paid for travel and or accommodation
up to the sum insured in the event of cancellation or
curtailment due to the following causes:

Bodily
injury or sickness of the insured person or of an
immediate relative, fiancé(e), business colleague,
or any person with whom the Insured Person has arranged
to travel, reside or conduct business with |
 |
Jury
Service of the Insured Person or those detailed
above |
 |
Redundancy |
 |
Emergency
duty as a member of the Armed Forces, Police or
Fire and Rescue Service |
 |
Burglary
or major damage to the Insured's residence or place
of business |
 |
Cancellation
of Scheduled or Chartered transport services including
connecting public services due to accident, strike,
industrial action, hijack, terrorism, criminal act,
bomb scare, riot, civil commotion, flood, fire,
earthquake, landslide, avalanche, adverse weather
or mechanical breakdown |
 |
Major
damage rendering uninhabitable the accommodation
in which the insured person has previously booked
to reside. |
Delayed Departure and Hijack - Sum
Insured £3,000
Should
for the reasons detailed in the cancellation or curtailment
section of the policy the transport services previously
booked to travel on are delayed, Insurers will provide
the following benefits:
 |
Up
to £3,000 for irrecoverable loss of travel
and accommodation expenses should after 24 hours
of delay you wish to cancel the trip completely |
 |
£20
for the first complete 12 hours of delay and £40
for each subsequent 12 hour period up to a maximum
of £180. |
Personal Accident - Sum Insured
£25,000
In
the event of the Insured sustaining bodily injury by
accidental, visible and violent means resulting in one
of the following categories a benefit of £25,000
(restricted to £2,500 in respect of the death
of an Insured Person 15 years or below) shall be payable:

Permanent
Total Disablement from the Insured's usual occupation. |
Baggage & Personal Effects -
Sum Insured £1,500
Should
the Insured Person suffer the loss of or damage to baggage
and/or personal effects whilst on a covered trip the
following cover is provided:

Up
to a maximum of £4,000 per Certificate |
 |
Single
Article limit £300 |
 |
All
Jewellery and valuables £500 |
 |
Losses
from Unattended Vehicles £500. |
In
the event of the Insured being temporarily deprived
of his baggage and/or personal effects for an excess
of 12 hours, Insurers will provide cover up to £150
in respect of emergency purchases.
 |
Money
- Sum Insured £1,000 |
This
section provides cover for loss of money (including
travellers cheques, tickets, passports and drivers documents)
whilst on a covered trip and during the 72 hours prior
to departure.
Additionally
this section includes the fraudulent use of a credit
card or charge card lost during the trip but only in
excess of any compensation guarantees given by bank
or card issuing companies.

This
section excludes money or credit cards stolen from
unattended vehicles

 |
Cover
in respect of cash is limited to £250. |
Personal Liability - Sum Insured
£2,000,000
In
the event of the Insured person becoming legally liable
for damages payable in Law to a third party for bodily
injury or property damage caused during the period of
insurance this section of the policy shall indemnify
the Insured up to the sum insured stated above.

Including
defence costs and expenses up to £100,000 |

Legal
expenses up to £25,000. |
The
above policy can be extended to include Winter Sports
activities that includes covers listed below:
 |
Loss
of advanced deposits or payments for ski lessons
or ski hire and ski passes up to £750 in the
event of the trip being cancelled or curtailed |

Loss
or damage to your own skis and boots (other than
if damaged whilst in use) up to £300 a pair |
 |
Loss
of ski passes whilst on a trip up to a limit of
£100 |

LIFE
INSURANCE
An
exclusive facility has been set up in order to arrange
annually renewable Terms Life cover that is available
to Members of Epilepsy Action, potential members and their immediate
families with sums assured of up to £100,000 (subject
to acceptance).
Premium
can be settled in full by way of cheque or credit card,
alternatively, Insurers operate Interest Free Instalment
facility.
SCOPE
OF COVER
This
cover provides one-year level term assurance up to a
maximum sum of £100,000 in the event of Death
by any cause (other than suicide and subject to the
policy terms and conditions regarding hazardous activities).

just in case that unforeseen event should occur.

policy has been designed to cover not just the Buildings

such events as fire, theft and water damage and is comparable
with all the leading household policies.
