Summary of Cover

Buildings

Buildings are insured on reinstatement basis for loss or damage caused by the following events:

  • Fire, lightning, explosion or earthquake
  • Theft or attempted theft by forced entry or exit
  • Riot or malicious damage
  • Storm or flood
  • Escape of water from fixed apparatus
  • Impact
  • Falling aerials, trees or branches
  • Leakage of beer or fuel oil.

Contents

Trade contents are insured for loss or damage caused by the same events as buildings.

Also included in the policy:

  • Property temporarily removed - up to 15% of the office contents sum insured
  • Accidental loss or damage to all glass and fixed sanitaryware
  • Accidental breakage of fixed glass
  • Debris removal costs
  • Replacement of locks - up to £500.

Money

  • Loss of negotiable money e.g. cash, postal orders:
    • in transit, when open for business or in a bank night safe - £4,000
    • in a locked safe - £1,000
    • by registered post - £1,000
    • at home - £500
    • in the premises when unoccupied - £250.
  • Loss of non-negotiable money, e.g. crossed cheques - £250,000.
  • Assault benefits payable as a result of malicious attack by anyone stealing or attempting to steal money or contents;
    • £10,000 benefit following death, loss of limbs or sight, or permanent inability to work
    • £100 weekly benefit for temporary inability to work
    • up to £250 per person for personal effects.
  • Replacement of locks - to a limit of £500.
  • Business interruption - to a limit of twice the trade contents insured, which can be increased at your request. Indemnity periods from 12 to 36 months can be selected. Cover includes:
    • notifiable disease at the premises or poisoning from food or drink supplied
    • defective drains/sanitary arrangements causing closure
    • vermin or pests at the premises
    • murder or suicide at the premises
    • failure of public utilities
    • damage at supplier's premises to a limit of £10,000.
  • Excess £250.

Optional Extension

  • "Accidental Damage".

Liabilities

  • Employers' Liability, excluding offshore work - indemnity limit £10,000,000 including personal liability during visits abroad, indemnity to others and Health and Safety at Work Act (1974)
  • Public and Products Liability - indemnity limit £1,000,000 including non-manual work abroad, motor contingent liability, indemnity to others and principal, cross liabilities, Health and Safety at Work Act (1974) and Defective Premises Act (1972).

Goods in Transit

  • Cover can be provided for loss or damage of goods whilst in transit anywhere in the UK. Excess £50.

"All Risks"

  • Cover can be provided for "all risks" on specified items within the premises or anywhere within the UK. Excess £50.

Terrorist Damage

  • Covers up to £100,000 for buildings, contents, business interruption, for each loss occurrence, excluding Northern Ireland.

Legal Expenses

Incurred in respect of:

  • Employment - fees and awards
  • Property
  • Tax and VAT investigations
  • The Data Protection Act
  • Criminal prosecution defence - for the company and employees
  • Unrecoverable wages as a result of jury service
  • To a limit of £50,000
  • Excess £75. Certain situations are not insured

Optional Extension

  • Contract cover which covers expenses arising from disputes with customers or suppliers after a sale or purchase of goods or services.

Main Exclusions

The principle exclusions listed below apply in addition to the standard commercial market exclusions but these should not be taken as a definitive list. For full details of all the applicable exclusions, please request a policy document.

  • Damage caused by theft or attempted theft not involving violent and forcible entry or exit
  • Damage caused by pollution or contamination
  • Damage caused by storm or flood to property in the open
  • Damage by escape of water to stock or goods in trust in any cellar or basement when not stored at least six inches above floor level
  • Loss of money arising from acts of dishonesty by any employee not discovered within 14 days
  • Loss of goods from an unattended road vehicle unless securely fastened and locked
  • Public liability arising from professional advice given
  • Products liability arising from product guarantee and recall
  • Products liability arising from known exports to the USA or Canada
  • Any loss arising from war, civil war, fire or explosion by Terrorism. However please note separate Terrorism Damage cover is provided as detailed above.
